Interview with an Artist

SEEKING ARTISTS FOR A

SPECIAL ONGOING PUBLISHING PROJECT

Female Figure Study Dawn D. Boyer, c. 1976

Female Figure Study
Dawn D. Boyer, c. 1976

Requirements:

  • The artist currently earns at least 10-25% (or more) of their annual income from their artwork
  • Artists are able to write English proficiently
  • Artists are willing to answer a written questionnaire (90-100 questions) in an interview format within a two month deadline
  • Artists have between 18-20 high quality, high-resolution (dpi) pieces of artwork available to share for the project (from cloud storage)
  • Willing to commit to completing the project within a two month time period.

This will seem like a ‘too good to be true’ type of offer, but it is above-board and an honest endeavor. The Publisher/Editor has a series of “Interview with an Artist: Insert Your Name here” books in the form of hybrid “magabook” (combination of magazine and book). The publisher’s goal is to issue one of these interview magabooks monthly, with high-quality images of artists that work to broaden exposure, increase branding, and assist as a marketing tool for the artist. The goal is to assist those in the art community who are seeking more branding and marketing to reach a wider audience and target market.

What does the publisher get out of the project?

  • shares and enables a broader reach for the artists in the art community; sharing artwork by others, helping artists get exposure for their work
  • collect info about artists and their methods, personal philosophies, viewpoints, marketing, and advertising means to share and teach others who are aspiring or struggling artists for future books written as guides on how to market themselves and gain exposure to the art appreciation community
  • An example of a published  magabook can be reviewed at these links:

Interview with an Artist: Barbara Kobylinska – http://amzn.to/2hHxSyA

Interview with an Artist: Tamara Seraph – http://amzn.to/2hKqQfR

What does the artist get out of the project?

  • Individual publication showcasing their (best) artwork
  • National and international recognition and BRANDING via the art appreciation community
  • Discount code to purchase book at deep discounts (printing costs only [plus shipping & handling])  for resell in artist’s art gallery, studio, or in art shows as a point of sale (POS) item that enhances their exposure long-term because the item is a collectable versus throw-away
  • Portfolio of artwork they can share with future galleries for consideration (for showings)
  • Permanent publication all about the artist and their artwork – in perpetuity!

How to sign up for the project:

  • Send e-mail inquiry to: Dawn.Boyer@dboyerconsulting.com noting in the subject line: ART MAGABOOK INQUIRY
  • Include: (a) Your full name and contact info, (b) describe the type of art you create, (c) provide examples of artists work via URL links to social media, business website(s), or share the file folder (via email invite) to ‘view’ the artwork via cloud computing (Box.net, etc.). (Publisher/editor will not download or share the photos outside this consideration stage until a Confidentiality Agreement is signed.)
  • If the Publisher believes the artwork is worthy of sharing and writing about, the Artist will be issued a Confidentiality Agreement / Memorandum of Understanding – protecting the artwork and copyrights of the artist and enabling the publisher to a one-time use of the images in the magabook for publication.
  • After the CA/MOU is signed and sent back to the Publisher, Instructions and Written Interview form will be issued to the artist to complete within a deadline of two months (the faster it gets done, the faster it gets published, the faster the artist can use it for sales and branding).
  • Artist will submit completed interview to publisher, who will edit, cleanup, revise and polish the content, then compile the Interview magabook with the best images and photos of the artist’s work.
  • Publisher will provide a galley proof to the artist for final review to print before publishing release (but publisher will make all final decisions for design, outline, editing of final galley, etc.).
  • Once the galley is reviewed by artist, the artist will be mailed (or hand delivered if in Hampton Roads, VA) two ‘free’ copies of the magabook and provided a discount code to use to purchase more magabooks at a ‘wholesale printer’s price.’

I am looking forward to hearing back from some aspiring artists for this project! There is a LIMITED number of artists the publisher is able to accept, so following instructions in the ‘how to sign up for the project is vital.

Publisher will acknowledge ALL inquiries that provide URLs to samples of their work.
